Max Verstappen has been disqualified from Sunday’s cyber race on the virtual circuit of Spa. In addition, the two-time world champion was punished for fully conscious actions committed in order to take revenge on one of the participants, as a result of which he had an accident.
Max started from pole, showed off his skills as always and would certainly have won the race, but halfway through the race he was the victim of a multi-car incident at the La Source hairpin.
German cyber racer Sven-Ole Haase crashed into Verstappen from behind, causing Max to lose control of his car and collide with his partner’s sports car.
After that, the Dutchman returned to the track, but only to pay back the offender. He cut into the Les Combes corner into the safety zone, overtook Haase’s car and deliberately rammed it from behind, after which both flew onto the gravel embankment and eventually hit the crash barriers. It later turned out that an incident had preceded this in which a German was involved, which made Max even more inflamed.
Verstappen’s actions sparked outrage in the esports community as it was clearly unsportsmanlike and against the spirit of this kind of competition.
