We talked about the premiere of the McLaren Solus GT hypercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and this car generated a lot of interest, not only because it is very unusual, but also because it won this year’s traditional hill climb competition.
McLaren works driver Marvin Kirschhofer failed to break the record set by Max Chilton last year, but he nevertheless showed impressive speed behind the wheel of the Solus GT.
The machine is equipped with a naturally aspirated Judd V10 engine with a displacement of 5.2 liters and an output of about 830 hp. Weighing in at under 1000kg it gives the Solus GT an enviable dynamism, but more importantly its carefully thought out aerodynamic body kit allows you to generate powerful downforce so the hypercar holds the track perfectly when cornering .
Kirschhofer raced down the 1,866-meter course in 45.342 seconds, faster than any other competitor yesterday, but still well short of last year’s record of 39.081 seconds.
