Last weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Alex Albon raced the historic Williams FW08 in which Keke Rosberg won the championship in 1982, although he only managed one win.
According to him, Alex is not used to driving such old machines, until last weekend he had not been able to drive a race car that was more than five years old, but he did quite well and even got a rare pleasure. But of course he is even happier with his recent results on the Formula 1 circuits, and British racer Williams hopes to finish in the top ten more than once this year, such as at Montreal and Silverstone.
Alex Albon: “There are still two races to go before the summer break, and now we are doing great, especially when you consider how we looked in winter testing and how we started the season. The Williams car then lacked efficiency, we had major problems and it was unlikely that we would be able to go above 9th in the Constructors’ Championship.
But after the FW45 was upgraded from the Canadian podium, we earned points in two of the last three races and qualified for the finals in all three. Agree, such changes are impressive, although I understand that all these tracks are very suitable for our car.
It is felt that now everyone at Williams is in a fighting mood, the team is buzzing with energy and we are already sharing 7th and 8th line with Haas in the team standings. Our aim is to secure 7th place in the Constructors’ Championship, although we understand that this will not be easy. But we keep attacking and everyone on the team enjoys this process. It is clear that Williams has had some difficult seasons, but now things are going very well.
