Jenson Button’s Garage 56 program formally ended when a specially modified NASCAR endurance car crossed the finish line at Le Mans, but Mike Rockenfeller and Jenson Button got behind the wheel of this unusual stock car last weekend.
During the Le Mans Marathon, many noted that the sympathy of the majority of fans was right on the side of the crew of the American Hendrick Motorsports team, although his Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 took part in the legendary out-of-competition race in the special category Innovative Car .
Something similar was repeated at the Goodwood Festival of Speed: how effective Rockerfeller, and late Sunday night and Button, smoked rubber and famously twisted “doughnuts”, was recognized as the best performance of the weekend.
Jenson confirmed he last drove the car at Goodwood, although the 2009 world champion will have to start again in the NASCAR series with Rick Ware Racing in August at Indianapolis.
“It was a beautiful farewell to our mighty car from the Garage 56 program,” Button shared on social networks. “There are happy memories attached to it, so I felt a bit emotional because this was the last time I rode this monster. Many thanks to everyone involved in this very special project. We also won the Weekend Performance at Goodwood, but it’s not my fault!”
