Elbon: Hungary will have to moderate expectations

Williams is preparing for the Hungarian championship round and if the drivers are looking forward to returning to an interesting track, the team’s engineers are more interested in the new qualifying format and the weather forecast for the weekend.

Alex Albon: “Hungary has a great track, one of the tracks we all like to race on because it has a very organic setup. We will arrive at the Hungaroring after three races, in which the team performed quite confidently, but I think we have to moderate expectations this coming weekend, as it is not a fact that this circuit suits us.

However, let’s see how our new products will work on the Hungaroring, where a lot of downforce is needed, which couldn’t be said of the previous three circuits.

Logan Sargent: “I’m very happy to be back in Budapest, it’s a rather difficult circuit and the format of qualifying will change next weekend. But I hope we can take advantage of this and the weekend will work out well for us.”

Dave RobsonChief Race Engineer: “The Hungaroring will be an interesting contrast to Silverstone and our car and our drivers will have to be put to the test.

With the Imola spring event canceled, an alternative approach to tire allocation will be tested for the first time this coming weekend. Each driver will receive fewer sets of tires than usual, and will also have to use certain compounds in each of the three parts of qualifying.

It will be interesting to see how each team performs in such a qualifying format, especially as Pirelli will bring the softest rubber compounds to this stage.

As is often the case, the July weather forecast in Budapest promises heat, and the possibility of thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. We keep an eye on the weather situation, but I hope it will only rain in the evenings.”
