Magnussen: I have no specific expectations

Haas F1 gears up for the Hungarian Grand Prix and Kevin Magnussen hopes to be competitive, but stressed he has no specific expectations, also as the team continues to work out the causes of the problems plaguing it on Sunday.

Q: The Hungarian leg of the championship is both the beauty of Budapest and the electrified atmosphere of the Hungaroring circuit, where the track is configured to resemble a go-kart. Do you like performing in Hungary?
Kevin Magnussen: I always find the Hungarian Grand Prix interesting. The track there is narrow and twisty so overtaking is not easy but this increases the importance of qualifying so events at the Hungaroring on Saturdays always develop in an exciting scenario.

Normally this is the last race before the summer break and we are looking forward to it, but this year it will be different. I am preparing for the upcoming race and I hope we can be competitive.

Q: It is believed that the Hungaroring requires you to set the car up for a high level of downforce, like the circuit in Monaco. Günter Steiner emphasized that you and Niko Hulkenberg play an important role in helping the team deal with the shortcomings of the VF-23. If the team counts on you, maybe that contributes to effective teamwork to improve results?
Kevin Magnussen: I think it’s pretty clear that there are certain complexities that get in the way of us on Sunday. In qualifying, if you have to do a fast lap with little fuel, we can often show good results, but in races the picture changes.

We are working hard to work together to find the causes of these problems and offer some solutions. Since there are many talented specialists in the team, I am sure we can work it out.

Q: The team is preparing for the third of the four Grand Prix in July. As a rider you probably like it when they follow one after the other, because then you get into the right rhythm?
Kevin Magnussen: The European leg of the season is always packed, but the fact that the flights are short, everything takes place in the same time zone and I have the opportunity to be home between races, even if the stages are back-to-back, makes it easier.

Still, I like this schedule, moreover we know the European circuits very well, most of the riders performed there in the youth series.

Although I have no specific expectations regarding the next two races. I’m just trying to do my best there.
