Esteban Okon: The team has prepared well for Hungary

In an interview with Alpine’s press office, team rider Esteban Okon spoke about his expectations for the last two stages before the summer break in Hungary and Belgium, as well as the characteristics of Hungary’s Hungaroring circuit.

Q: How do you plan to bounce back in Budapest after the last two stages?
Esteban Ocon: It’s always unpleasant to leave the track without earning points in the race – in my case it happened twice in a row. This result is very disappointing, especially after a number of positive milestones.

In Silverstone it was especially difficult – the home race for the team from Enstone ended in retirement due to a leak in the hydraulic system. We are disappointed because we are not delivering the results we aim for and have not been able to use the full potential of the machine and not exploit all its capabilities.

We analyzed a lot and prepared as best we could for the upcoming stages – this is physical training and work on the simulator and various meetings. The team wants to pay for itself in Budapest and Spa, because we looked good on these circuits in the past.

Q: What do you expect from the last two races before the summer break?
Esteban Ocon: I expect that we will focus on our own tasks and continue to work hard. The past few weeks have shown that it is necessary to react quickly and answer the job. We saw that our closest rivals have made significant progress, and if we want to get ahead of them we need to add and outperform.

The Hungarian stage takes place on one of my favorite circuits, where I took my first win a few years ago. We will try to achieve a good result and leave disappointment in the past. The team is confident in their abilities, but it is important to perform successfully on Saturday and earn points on Sunday.

Q: What do you like about the Hungarian track?
Esteban Ocon: I love flying the Hungaroring. The track is one of my favourites, not just because I won on it! This is a real race track with many corners, it is difficult to overtake and it is very important to monitor tire wear.

Budapest is a beautiful city with a pleasant atmosphere. It will be a bit strange after the race not to go to the summer break, as we usually do, but I’m looking forward to the next two stages. We have to show good results to go into halftime in a good mood.
