Ferrari optimistic about the Hungarian Grand Prix

The Ferrari team performed unsuccessfully in the final stage at Silverstone, earning just three points. The head of the Scuderia Frederic Vasseur believes that in Hungary the result will be higher.

Frederick Vasseur, Team leader: “We are going to Budapest and are determined to make further progress, which started with the introduction of some technical innovations of the SF-23. There were clear signs of progress in Canada and Austria, and even Silverstone showed an upward trend.

We are confident that the car will enable Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to show their best qualities at the Hungaroring. They both love the track and have prepared well for this weekend, with a focus on qualifying, which is always important on this tight track.

In Hungary, teams will try out a new qualifying format for the first time, meaning that a certain line-up can be used in each session. This becomes an additional variable given the density of most teams’ battles. We look forward to fighting close to the leaders on Saturday and Sunday.”

Jock KliaChief Race Engineer: “In order to increase efficiency with tires and reduce the number of kits available to the rider over the weekend, teams will have more flexibility in working with tires during practice, but at the same time their use will be more strictly regulated during qualifying.

Teams can use the same set in different training sessions – now only one set needs to be returned after each session. During qualifying, the rider has only two sets of Hard in the first session, two Medium sets in the second and two Soft sets in the third. The rules for selecting tires for the race have not changed.

If they have to use all three compounds in qualifying, the drivers will be doing more laps on harder tires in the first and second part of qualifying with an inevitable increase in traffic.”
