Sergio Perez spoke in Budapest on Thursday about the changes at AlphaTauri, where Daniel Ricciardo replaced Nick de Vries, and in 2025 he would like to replace Perez at Red Bull Racing…
Sergio Perez: “I’m sorry Nick got fired. His experience in Formula 1 was very short, but it is a brutal sport. In Formula you never know what the future has in store for you. On the other hand, I’m happy for Daniel. He is very motivated, he got a great chance, but nothing changes for me. I play for Red Bull and I know that many would like to be in this team.
It’s hard to find a balance. Some riders simply get more time to settle in due to the circumstances. We are lucky that Daniel is now free from the contract – and Red Bull gave him a great chance.
I believe the changes in AlphaTauri will not affect my future. Frankly, I don’t have time to discuss with Daniel what’s going on – I’m focused on the two stages ahead, first in Hungary and then in Belgium. And 2025 is now so far away that it would be foolish to estimate your chances now.”
