Leclerc: Risk of mistakes increases with new format

The updated qualifying format for the Hungarian Grand Prix, in which only the Hard line-up will be available in the first session, only Medium in the second and only Soft in the final, will not be liked by all riders. Charles Leclerc believes that this format will only complicate the task as there is an extra variable that can lead to an error.

Charles Leclerc: “It will be a tough weekend as we now have three practice sessions to work out many different options with the new format in mind. Sure, additional opportunities may appear, but there’s also a good chance you’ll make a mistake that ruins the weekend. But that’s part of the game.

However, I do not think that the risk of error should become part of our sport. I think the strongest should win. We’re in for a bit of excitement this weekend, but the more teams learn about the new format, the sooner the usual joining of forces will return. Maybe after qualifying we will understand the format better, but the session will certainly be difficult given the tires available to us.

The Ferrari driver reacted to AlphaTauri’s decision to fire Nick de Vries and invite Daniel Ricciardo in his place: “It is very difficult for Nick now. Yesterday I messaged him as I am sure such a decision is hard to make.

I’m sorry, and I think he was treated too harshly. On the other hand, I’m happy to see Daniel back in the paddock. What happens is part of Formula 1 but, as I said, Nick was treated too harshly.
