Hamilton: Contract talks nearing completion

Lewis Hamilton’s contract renewal talks with Mercedes are one of the hottest topics in the paddock. In Hungary, the seven-time world champion said negotiations had actually been completed and the parties had to agree on minor details.

Lewis Hamilton: We’re very, very close [к продлению контракта]. There may be a corresponding statement before the end of the year. But maybe I’ll keep you waiting! Honestly, I don’t have more information to share. Negotiations are already going through lawyers.

I did not participate in the discussion from the beginning because I wanted to concentrate on other matters that concern me. The team has been working on this issue in the background, but negotiations are now complete. It remains to discuss minor details.

Lewis commented on the most important news of the past week – the dismissal of Nick de Vries from AlphaTauri: “I would say this is how things are at Red Bull. For me the news did not come as a big surprise as Daniel Ricciardo was present at all the pilot briefings this year, although it is rare to see a rider who does not take part in such briefings.

I’m not surprised that Ricciardo is back, I’m more surprised by the decision the team made regarding poor Nick. He is a talented young racer. I’m sure he has a bright future and there will be a lot of great options.”
