Nico Hülkenberg set the sixth fastest time in the second free practice session of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Haas driver noted the car’s high speed on a fast lap, but added that the team had problems again on race distance. His teammate Kevin Magnussen showed the fifteenth fastest time.
Nico Hulkenberg (6th): “What a Friday! We know that speed in one lap is our strong point, but in the long heats there were more problems. The situation doesn’t look good from the cockpit, so let’s see what we can do.
The weather promises heat on Saturday and Sunday, and tomorrow we will also have an updated qualifying format. It will be difficult for us, given that in the first session it will be possible to use only hard tyres, but we will see what we can do. We intend to attack – we’ll see if we make progress.”
Kevin Magnussen (15th): “A useful day, although in the first session it was not as fruitful to work as in the second. With the reduction of available tire sets this weekend, today’s Friday is a little less interesting. However, the situation is the same for everyone – let’s see what happens tomorrow. I don’t think the new format will have much influence on the joining of forces, but we will know more about it tomorrow.”
Gunter Steiner, Team boss: “The rain disturbed a lot in the first practice, so it is impossible to get a clear picture of the results. In the second session we went through the program without any problems, which is positive.
The data collected has yet to be examined as our machines were in different configurations. I can’t say we’re completely satisfied, but we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.”
