Lando Norris’ fifth place in Melbourne was McLaren’s best result of the season, but the Briton is a little disappointed he couldn’t compete with Mercedes…
Lando Norris: “The race went worse than we expected. I thought we could fight Mercedes more actively than we did. Their pace was faster and we had problems that cost us a lot of time and prevented us from finishing in front of Mercedes. At least their car was faster and I’m happy with fifth and sixth place.
The result could have been worse if both Ferrari drivers and both Red Bull drivers had crossed the finish line. We took advantage of the problems of the opponents and earned a lot of points, so I’m happy.
We have to keep working on our weaknesses if we want to finish in those positions more often. We will not be everywhere as fast as in Albert Park. Stages are expected, where not everything will go so smoothly for us. We have exactly the same car as at the round in Bahrain – we can’t improve it quickly.”
