Max Verstappen: Now it’s difficult to evaluate new items

The Red Bull Racing drivers fell outside the top ten in Hungary on Friday, but they are confident that they can earn themselves back on Saturday…

Max Verstappen (11th): “We want to be the best in qualifying, but it was important to run different series on different compounds to assess the situation.

It’s hard to evaluate new items after two short sessions, but we’ll examine the telemetry to see if there’s any correlation between the data, as we haven’t used many sets of tapes.

With the new qualifying format we are limited in the choice of kits and I didn’t want to use them on Friday to better prepare for Saturday.

The car behaved well, a little understeer bothered at times, but on a long set of circles the results were good.

Sergio Perez (18th): “The accident in the morning was due to my mistake, but the mechanics did everything they could to fix the car and I was able to do a few laps in the second session. Due to the new qualification format, it was great to collect data for further analysis.

When we talk about new products, it is too early to evaluate their effectiveness, but we will receive more information on Saturday. I’m positive, I’m looking forward to qualifying and I’m sure we’re going to have a positive weekend.”
