McLaren drivers believe the car has good pace at the Hungarian circuit, although Lando Norris has more cause for optimism than his team-mate, who lost some time after damaging the underside of his MCL60 during second practice.
Lando Norris (2nd): “Since the first session almost got lost, it wasn’t easy, because there was too much to sort out in one second training session, but I think we managed that for the most part.
We showed a pretty confident pace, both in one fast lap and in long runs. And from the very beginning the car was distinguished by good balance. Of course there are a few areas we still need to work on, but overall the MCL60 performed well.
However, it seems I can’t attack as I would like in some parts of the track and I think we haven’t fully revealed the machine’s potential.
But we are still helped by the recently introduced innovations, because thanks to them the pace has increased and this gives confidence in fast corners. But we still need to pay maximum attention to the behavior of the car in slow corners.
Oscar Pistri (19th): “Friday is behind us, and in first practice on the wet track everything went pretty well, and overall we look confident, although I damaged the underside of my car in the second session.
Because of this I lost some time halfway through the second practice session, but the team worked great and I returned to the track to do a few more laps, and this is valuable.
It seems to me that we showed a normal pace in both sessions, so I am more or less satisfied. But in the evening it is necessary to analyze the information collected in order to prepare for tomorrow.”
