Gabriele Mini won the Formula 3 sprint in Hungary on Saturday. Today’s victory was the second of the season for the Italian rider. Together with him, the championship leader Gabriel Bortoleto and Nikita Bedrin, for whom the podium was the first in his career, climbed to the podium.
On Saturday morning, the participants of the youth championship met with sunny weather. Under the reverse grid rule, Mini started from pole position, having qualified twelfth the day before, and Bedrin joined him on the front row for the first time in his career.
Nikita Bedrin got off to a confident start and at the exit of the first corner he led the pack. Nikola Tsolov started the race unsuccessfully and dropped from fifth to seventh. Cohen, Barter, Smith and Montoya started even worse – after contact on the first lap, these four went to the pits to repair the damage. For Ido Cohen, the race was over.
In the top ten Tzolov continued to lose ground and in the fourth round he let Franco Colapinto go ahead. Championship leader Gabriel Bortoleto showed the best lap and started to put pressure on Christian Mansell in the battle for third place. Bedrin detached himself from Mini for a moment.
On the fifth lap, braking into the first corner, Bortoleto overtook Mansell for third. On the eighth lap, Mini Bedrin attacked on the straight and regained the race lead thanks to DRS, having lost at the start.
On the tenth lap, Gabriel Bortoleto broke away from Mansell for five seconds, but failed to get close to the leaders. Hugh Barter received a ten-second penalty for colliding with Tommy Smith on the first lap.
On lap 12, Zach O’Sullivan attempted to attack Tzolov under first turn braking, but the maneuver failed and contact occurred between the cars, damaging the front wing of Zach’s car. O’Sullivan had to pit for a new one.
At the end of the lap, Sebastian Montoya retired due to technical problems, which led first to the appearance of yellow flags and then to the activation of the virtual safety car. On the fourteenth lap, a real safety car drove onto the track, driven by Berndt Maylander.
The race resumed with three laps to go. The first three held their position at the restart and in the battle for fourth place Paul overtook Aron Mansell. After Christian, Oliver caught up with Goethe. There was contact between Marty and Tsolov in the first corner, so that Marty turned around and the race was over for Tsolov.
Gabriel Mini took the race to victory. Throughout the final lap, Bedrin desperately defended himself against Bortoleto’s attacks, but in the final corner the championship leader moved into second place. Nikita finished third ahead of Paul Aron.
