The race weekend in Hungary started for Sergio Pérez with a car wreck in the first minutes of Friday practice. With Daniel Ricciardo back in Formula 1 looking for a place in Red Bull Racing with AlphaTauri, Sergio did not perform well on Friday.
Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher suggested on Sky Deutschland that if Perez continues to make mistakes, Ricciardo will replace him even sooner than you might think.
“Accidents like the first practice shouldn’t happen,” says Ralph. – I assume that in the long run Perez will lose his place in the team. It is possible that Ricciardo’s return to Red Bull Racing will happen even sooner than we think.”
Sergio Perez’s contract with Red Bull Racing runs until the end of 2024, but The Race suggests the team could terminate the contract with the Mexican driver ahead of schedule and pay him damages.
In addition, according to unconfirmed information, there is a clause in Sergio’s current contract that allows Red Bull Racing to transfer him to AlphaTauri if the driver’s results do not suit the team. Such a contract clause could well exist, taking into account past experience, when Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly were transferred from the main team to the junior team to Red Bull Racing.
