Riccardo: I’ve made good progress in these two days

Of the AlphaTauri drivers, only Daniel Ricciardo made it through the second part of qualifying, although he is driving the AlphaTauri car for the first time this weekend and returned to action after a six-month break. The Australian is generally satisfied with his work during the Hungarian weekend, especially as he was immediately ahead of his partner.

Daniel Rickardo (13th): “The most important thing for me is to get back behind the wheel, feel comfortable in the car again and work well with the team. In my opinion I made good progress in these two days, I adapted quite quickly and as long as we make progress I will be satisfied.

It wasn’t the easiest weekend to come back with yesterday’s rainy weather and the new approach to tire distribution, but I’m happy to be competitive in qualifying.

I don’t think I will experience any special difficulties during the race, because I only missed half a year, so it will be fun tomorrow, and of course, if there are opportunities to regain positions, then we will see what this car is capable of.”

Yuki Tsunoda (17th): “Today was difficult. If you stop fighting after the first qualifying session, it’s bad and I’m upset. I didn’t manage to improve and I didn’t get into the second session, and this is not the situation I want to be in. In general, it is a pity that this happened.

We had speed and I think thanks to the new rear wing we were able to improve, but I just couldn’t get it all together and show a better result. I am very concerned that I missed this opportunity, but this will be a good lesson for me for the future.

The new approach to tire distribution this weekend has made qualifying interesting, although difficulties have increased, but this will not affect tomorrow’s race. Based on what we’ve seen in training, we have good race pace, so I hope I can take advantage of that and regain as many positions as possible.
