Aston Martin is slowly rolling back. Against the backdrop of rivals’ progress, Fernando Alonso was just eighth in qualifying in Hungary and his teammate Lance Stroll was just fourteenth.
Mike Crack, Team boss: “Today we could have done better, but some of our opponents were faster. In Hungary the results are always tight, but we will only get points tomorrow and in the race we are always more competitive.
Let’s see how the race goes – the tires wear quickly on this track, which can diversify the number of strategy options. Regarding the new qualifying format, I don’t know what to say yet, first we have to analyze everything.”
Fernando Alonso (8th) “I was pleased with the performance of the AMR23 in qualifying as we tweaked the settings a bit from Friday. The fight is very tight, every tenth counts. I think we performed better than can be judged by the result.
We know it’s hard to overtake on this track, but I’ll try to get into the top six to get more points.”
Lance walk (14th): “It’s a pity that my first lap result in the second part of qualifying was canceled because I went off the track in turn 12. At that point I was actively attacking – and I just didn’t feel where the line was.
The new qualifying format made it a bit more difficult, but I don’t mind. The battle was incredibly tight, with minimal gaps between the teams. Tomorrow we will try to use every opportunity to win back.”
