Lando Norris finished second in Hungary to take the podium for the second race in a row. Thanks to this result, the McLaren driver improved his position in the individual classification, ahead of Lance Stroll in the battle for eighth place.
Lando Norris teammate Oscar Piastri finished fifth. After the race, the Australian complained of increased tire wear.
Lando Norris (2nd): “Tough race. It was especially difficult in the last laps when Sergio Perez closed in on me. However, he didn’t have enough speed to catch up, so I’m happy. I struggled from the start after making a small mistake in the first corner. Another podium for me and McLaren – a great result!
Can I fight for victory? Red Bull is too fast. Opportunities can only arise if they make a mistake or something happens. At this point, we are simply delighted with the progress that has been made. Five stages ago we struggled just to get out of the first part of qualifying, and now we are fighting for poles and podiums. We accept what we have now and we will fight for more next year.”
Oscar Pistri (5th): “The first segment was good, but the second and third were average – I just didn’t have enough pace, but I don’t know why. There were only serious problems with the tires – we need to find out the reasons.
I am happy that I was able to hold on to fifth position. At one point I thought I would end up much lower. We need to see what can be done to better control tire wear. It was only my second race where I had a lot of pit stops, but the rubber degradation was still high. We expected some difficulties, but I wanted to do better.”
