Alfa Romeo drivers started from the top ten at the Hungaroring, but for some reason failed to earn any points, although it all started with a bad start.
Valttery Bottas (12th): “The whole race was affected by a bad first lap, and that goes for both of us – Zhou had problems at the start, so I had to go around his car, losing some pace.
After that, all the rivals who started on soft tires just raced forward and at the end of the race we didn’t have enough speed to fight for positions and move forward.
Today our business was worse than the day before, but at least we can be happy that we were able to get some good speed in qualifying. I think we were able to fully reveal the car’s potential on Saturday at the Hungarian circuit, so we’ll see what we can do next weekend in Belgium, although it is clear that Spa is a very different track in nature.
Guanyu Zhou (16th): “I think it ended for us after a bad start. Unfortunately, there was a glitch in the operation of the machine and I’m still not exactly sure what it was related to. I don’t want to comment too much, but I kept the speed at the right level, and when the traffic lights went out and I accelerated, the engine didn’t respond at first.
I am very upset that this has happened and of course we need to find out what exactly went wrong. Then, braking into the first corner, I found myself in a turbulent zone behind the cars in front and couldn’t slow down enough because the brakes locked up, causing the incident.
Due to the fact that the front wing was damaged – in my opinion, a crack had appeared in it – it was difficult to fly, it was impossible to regain positions, especially on such a circuit.
