Isola: We chose the right selections for the Hungarian stage

Max Verstappen won the Hungarian Grand Prix, giving Red Bull Racing a record twelfth win in a row. Mario Isola, head of the Pirelli racing division, summarized the results of the Hungaroring race.

Mario Isol: “We saw a very interesting weekend testing a new tire distribution option. In addition, at this stage we have made the tires a step softer than in previous years.

As for the updated qualifying format, it is important to note that it will be tested again at the September round in Monza on a circuit with completely different characteristics. Then all collected data is carefully analyzed.

I would like to highlight two key moments from last weekend: qualifying turned out to be more unpredictable than usual as the riders had to quickly adapt to the constant line-up changes during the session. The second important point is that two sets of each composition had to be kept per race, which allowed more flexibility in choosing a strategy.

All drivers spent two pit stops in hot weather – before the start the asphalt warmed up to +53C, but at the same time we did not see any serious problems with rubber degradation. This confirms that we chose the right three compounds for this stage, and that four riders preferred to put on the first part of the Soft tire. This shows that the soft compound is quite suitable for the race.

Ahead of the last stage before the summer break in Spa on one of the most famous circuits on the calendar, whose characteristics are radically different from the Hungaroring, both in terms of configuration and weather. The Belgian event will be the third of the season to be held in a sprint format and should make the show even more exciting.”
