After winning the Hungaroring, Max Verstappen spoke about his impressions…
Q: Max, seven wins in a row for you and 12 wins for Red Bull Racing. You are writing history! What an incredible day for you and the team…
Max Verstappen: Yes, it was a perfect day! For once we had a good start, then we managed to control the condition of the tyres, with each lap I increased the lead over my rivals.
Q: What’s it like to fly on top of a wave, from success to success?
Max Verstappen: It is always a pleasure to work with a team in such circumstances. I think people have no idea how hard it is to win 12 races in a row, even with a really good car. It’s enough to make a mistake or spend a bad weekend – and this series will be interrupted. I hope we can maintain this momentum and keep improving and updating the car until the end of the season, just like next year.
Question: Have there been similar periods in your career?
Max Verstappen: Such days when the car behaves perfectly are generally very rare. Everything went the same way at Spa last year, although I had to start from the second row. But in principle this happens very rarely.
Q: Tell us about the race. How did you go through the first corner with Lewis?
Max Verstappen: I released the clutch, I immediately felt that there was no slip, the car holds the track well – and took the inside radius. We both braked quite late, I took the lead into the second corner and from then on the speed gradually increased.
Q: Formula 1 has announced that the Hungarian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until at least 2032. What do you think? Do you like this song?
Max Verstappen: Great circuit, very technical. I like performing here. I remember how I came here before Formula 3 to test in Formula Renault.
At that time it was a very difficult song to master, to do everything right. And I still come here, for example in GT cars. It’s just really nice here. There is a feeling that you are chasing a go-kart. It’s good that it stays on the calendar and is close to Budapest, which is also an interesting city. This is cool!
