In Hungary, Sergio Perez reached the qualifying final for the first time since the Miami Grand Prix in May, finishing third in the race and moving up to the podium. However, former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes the Mexican’s days at Red Bull Racing are numbered and that Max Verstappen will have a different team-mate next season.
Ralf Schumacher: “Sergio Perez has been in a gloomy mood lately. After committing numerous blunders in recent weeks, he came under fire again after crashing his car during his first practice session in Hungary.
Perez’s problem is the lack of stability. He makes too many mistakes and may lack mental toughness. He loses too much to Max and it seems to me that his days at Red Bull are numbered.
It’s unfair to put pressure on Sergio, but in the future, when Red Bull doesn’t have such an advantage over the rest, the team won’t be able to afford a second driver that much slower than the leader.
The team logically tries to make Perez feel that his place is not in danger, but I don’t think he will continue to drive for Red Bull next year.
