In Hungary, Lando Norris finished second for the second race in a row and his teammate Oscar Piastri scored ten points for fifth. McLaren expects to build on the success of the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix.
Lando Norris: “For the second race in a row I was on the podium! It’s nice to be back where we need to be. However, much remains to be done to consistently demonstrate such results until the end of the season.
I’m looking forward to the Spa stage. This is one of my favorite tracks that should suit our car. Depending on the weather it can of course be difficult, but we will do our best to finish the first half of the season with a strong result.”
Oscar Pistri: “Next race in Belgium. I’ve always loved racing at Spa because it’s a great track and I loved the format of the sprint weekend. The car has been fast in the last two races, which is positive, but there is a lot to learn every race weekend.
I’ll be back at base this week working on the simulator to make sure we get the most out of the data we’ve collected. I hope we have another successful weekend before the summer break.”
Andrew Stella, team boss: “Both drivers performed strongly in Hungary, and the data collected allows us to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the car. The team did a good job putting us in positions like that.
We are optimistic about the rest of the season, but we know that the opponents will not sit still. Our plans and ambitions remain the same – we will continue to improve the MCL60 this year to win races in the near future.
Before the summer break we will be on the podium in Belgium. The circuit in Spa is on the list of circuits that riders like. There is an interesting combination of long straights and different types of corners, and the weather can add to the complexity.
In addition, we will wait out the weekend in a sprint format, which will increase complexity but provide more opportunities. As usual, the whole team and riders are focused on the task at hand and ready to give their best.”
