At the Belgian Grand Prix, Pirelli will bring the “middle” trio of C2, C3 and C4 setups. The head of the tire company’s racing division, Mario Isola, commented on this choice.
Mario Isol: “After a few days of rest, another Formula 1 race weekend awaits – the last one before the summer break. The Belgian Grand Prix is one of the most prestigious events on the calendar and takes place on a circuit where drivers, cars and tires are put to the test. We bring the same train line as last year – C2, C3 and C4. This choice opens up a lot of room for strategic options when it’s not raining.
Traditionally, the weather in Spa is a key factor of the weekend. The fact that the date of the race has been changed from the end of August to the end of July this year may affect the weather, but the forecast is certainly changeable. The lap in Spa is the longest of the year and the height difference is the highest of the season. As a result, it happens that it rains over part of the track and the other half is completely dry.
New is that Spa is hosting a sprint weekend for the third time this season after Baku and Spielberg. Before Friday’s qualifying, the riders have only one hour of training and if it rains there will be even less time to prepare.
Usually at Spa we see different aerodynamic options for teams – some prefer more downforce to attack in the second sector, others prefer a lower downforce variant to attack and defend on the straights. This year we have two races on one of the most exciting circuits of the season – the show has to be spectacular.”
