Nico Rosberg commented on the fight between Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz in the closing laps of the Canadian Grand Prix. The 2016 world champion praised the Ferrari driver for putting pressure on the opponent, but at the same time said Carlos did not have the qualities to win the title.
Nico Rosberg: “Max has driven some impressive races, is confident and is riding at an impressive level. Verstappen qualified perfectly in difficult conditions and during the race he withstood the pressure from Carlos Sainz that should not be underestimated.
Behind the wheel, Max experienced terrible feelings. He did everything perfectly, but with the safety car right behind him, Carlos put a lot of pressure on him thanks to the three DRS zones. The smallest mistake could lead to defeat, but Max solved it brilliantly.
Carlos Sainz has what it takes to be a good Ferrari driver, but at the moment he doesn’t have the qualities needed to win the championship. Charles Leclerc was faster than Sainz in every race this season.
Carlos needs to make progress, which came as a surprise after last year. Now, of course, he has a completely different car at his disposal, so it may take him a while to get used to it.
