At the final Canadian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz was close to taking the first win of his career, but in the closing laps the Spaniard was unable to break Max Verstappen’s resistance. Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto is happy with his driver, but believes Sainz should improve in qualifying.
Mattia Binotto: “To win such a close match with Red Bull and Max, you have to have a perfect weekend. Carlos didn’t qualify in the best way and it cost him dearly.
However, Carlos gets more and more confident in the car, which makes it fly faster and faster. It’s nice to see that in the race he was just as fast as Max, if not faster. Thanks to the increased confidence, Carlos is more relaxed.
I’m pretty sure he’ll prove in the next Grand Prix that he’s a contender for the race win. I’m happy with Carlos’ drivers – it’s important for us to know that we can count on him on Sunday.”
