McLaren no longer plans to make serious changes to the car before the end of the season. Team leader Anders Seidl said there may be minor updates in the future and the main task will be to get the most out of the MCL36 configuration currently available to the engineers.
Andreas Seidl: “We will not have any major updates, so we will focus on unlocking the potential of the car we have now. Then we look at what small changes are still possible before the end of the season. We have to carefully use the time available for work in the wind tunnel, so we had to suspend further improvements to the car.
We managed to take a good step forward in addressing the weaknesses we had last year. For example to solve the problems we had on slow tracks. I believe that our car is now more suitable for any type of track.
On the other hand, since we switched to a new generation of machines, the power balance continues to change depending on the type of track. One weekend we could be third or fourth and the next in qualifying we could be seventh in speed.
This season went with ups and downs. The start of the season proved difficult for various reasons, but then we had a strong weekend in Melbourne and Imola. After that the team had problems again, but we performed strongly in Monaco in terms of speed. We know the area where we need to improve to achieve more stability.”
