Grosjean: Let the riders fight wheel to wheel!

A minor contact on the opening lap of the Canadian Grand Prix between the cars of Kevin Magnussen and Lewis Hamilton resulted in damage to the Haas front linkage wing end plate. The Dane was shown a black-orange flag, forcing Kevin to enter the pit lane to replace the damaged element. Kevin followed the instructions, but lost the opportunity to earn points because of this.

Magnussen’s former Haas team-mate Roman Grosjean believes the damage to Kevin’s car was not so severe that it was mandatory to replace the wing.

Magnussen’s race was ruined by the black and orange flag, but what was it for? asks Roman on his YouTube channel. – Yes, the front wing is slightly damaged, but only small parts could fly off it. If the FIA is so keen to protect drivers from such minor elements, then they should install Aeroscreen on cars, like in IndyCar – then nothing gets in the driver’s helmet.

I’m not happy with this decision, which was very hard and ruined Kevin’s race. He couldn’t do anything to avoid the pits – he was even ticketed for a racing incident.

He fought well against Lewis, but then his car got damaged, ruining the race. I do not agree with this fine.”

Roman Grosjean reacted to Fernando Alonso’s penalty, which resulted in the Alpine driver losing two positions at the finish: “I don’t agree with Fernando’s penalty. He didn’t deserve it because he had changed lanes twice in a straight line. The reverse straight isn’t even a straight, so how can you go straight through it?

Yes, let them fight wheel to wheel! Of course you can’t go beyond certain limits, but I don’t see anything bad in Fernando’s actions. It was interesting for me to watch the fight, so I’m not happy with the penalties for Magnussen and Alonso.”
