World Champion Jenson Button in 2009 tried himself after leaving Formula 1 in several racing series, in endurance races and Extreme E, and this year he will make his debut in rallycross, where his late father once competed.
Jenson Button: “I like racing, I like competition and I want to have fun.
I’m going to race with my friend Oli. He is an excellent athlete with extensive experience on dirt roads, I feel comfortable with him. I hope I will learn from him on clay, and he from me – on asphalt. This is a good collaboration. I hope that one day we will be able to perform at the level of leaders.
Rallycross is as different from Formula 1 as day is from night. Some of the jumps you have to overcome look intimidating, but that’s why this is all so interesting to me. This is really a new challenge for me.
I left Formula 1 after 17 years and wanted to try something new. I’m a driver, not a Formula 1 driver, a new challenge is exactly what I need. I achieved what I wanted to achieve in Formula 1 and now I’m happy to try something new.”
