Mattia Binotto could lead Alpine F1

Former Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has received an offer from Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo to head the Alpine F1 team. French sources write about this, in particular L’Auto Journal.

During the Belgian race weekend, Otmar Szafnauer’s last as head of the factory Renault team, Binotto was spotted in the paddock of the Spa circuit, after which he also stayed for Pirelli tire testing.

Leo Turini, a well-known Italian journalist, emphasized in his blog that this turn of events does not surprise him: “In France they say that Binotto has already reached an agreement with Alpine. I am writing about this because it does not surprise me.

I’ve known Mattia for almost 30 years, he’s a smart guy, though he may be a little spoiled by an inflated self esteem. He led Ferrari for several years – then his dream came true. However, his other dreams could not be realized, also through his own fault.

He made mistakes, but he didn’t always feel supported. He trusted the wrong people and it was extremely difficult to communicate with him at times. Some of his statements aroused vengeance in people.

But then again, there is no question that he is a smart man. If he finds a kind of mentor in the person of Luca de Meo and learns to listen to others, he can achieve great success.

If Binotto really decides to move from sunny Italy to the shores of foggy Albion, then it will be interesting to follow the continuation of the adventures of Italians in the UK, because before him there were, for example, Aldo Costa and Lorenzo Sassi, excellent engineers who for some reason did not come to court in Maranello, but then went on to have a successful career at Mercedes.
