In Belgium, the Williams team failed to score points, but sports director James Vowles does not hide the fact that it will not be easy to finish in the top ten in the next stage in the Netherlands. But with Monza he associates quite optimistic expectations.
James Vowles: “Before the summer break we tried to make sure that when we get back to work we can get the cars sufficiently ready for the races in Zandvoort and Monza in the time left until the next stage.
How can we perform on these songs? I think Zandvoort is not suitable for our car, but we have to do everything we can to show the best possible results there. Although I expect it will be difficult to earn points there.
But the race in Monza could be the best for us this season, so we have to prepare well for it. But this stage will bring its own challenges as the Italian weekend will again have an alternative qualifying format and we will have to work to find the best way to use rubber.
On the other hand, if everything is done correctly, we have the opportunity to earn points.
So far I consider the main positives that in the short time of my work in the team we have shown the whole world that we are able to get results with our car and earn points in almost all phases where so was a possibility.
This situation is different from the one the team was in a year ago, when we were among the laggards and could only claim points on rare occasions. But now, thanks to these changes, the psychological mood of the team, the attitude of people to work has changed.
Now we have a clear picture of the direction of further development, and this is a very important point. As we progress, we will fight more and more for higher positions, although it will be difficult for us after the summer break, as many teams will introduce technical innovations and can improve.
We are already increasingly focused on preparing for 2024, 2025 and 2026, and this will be reflected in our results in the remaining races of the season. We understand this. We are currently tied on points with Haas, but we are one spot higher than that team, but it will be extremely difficult to stay on it.
But I can promise that we will do our best every weekend to get optimal results and score points where possible.
