Carlos Sainz is spending his August holiday in Sardinia to build up the strength he needs for the second part of the season and says he is not too worried about the future just yet. On the one hand, his contract with Ferrari runs until the end of 2024, on the other hand, the Spanish driver believes that the team should now pay maximum attention to other matters.
Despite rumors that other potential employers, Audi in particular, are showing interest in him, he himself assures that he values his relationship with Ferrari and will not change anything.
“I am very proud that I could end up in a team like Ferrari. Every weekend I wear a red uniform and I don’t take it for granted because I know how much it means,” Carlos said in an interview with the championship’s official website. “I know what it cost me to get into this team, what effort I had to put in and how many sacrifices I had to make for this.
But at the same time I also try to get the most out of my work, to make my dream come true and at the same time constantly strive to get better.
Ferrari is a great team. At all the tracks we visit, we are greeted by tifosi and we feel that we are supported more than the riders of other teams. That’s why every Grand Prix feels like a new home race, thanks to the support we receive from Scuderia fans around the world.
But it is also true that very high demands are placed on us, we experience high psychological stress associated with greater pressure. We have many sponsors and we have to participate in many actions and activities.
I believe a Ferrari driver has to be at the peak of his career to fully qualify for this job. I am still very young, but at the same time I already have a lot of experience and I try to use it as much as possible.
Sainz also spoke about the growing popularity of Formula 1, also in his home country: “It’s great for our Spanish sponsors, for me, for Fernando Alonso, for F1 in general. Formula 1 is now in its heyday and this is happening not only in Spain, but all over the world – it is a great pleasure to be a part of this process. This may be due in part to the documentary series Drive to Survive on Netflix, but also to the effective use of social media to explain all things related to our sport in order to capture the attention of the younger generation.
Time flies fast, but I have nothing to complain about – I drive for the Ferrari team, my dream has come true and everything is going well. Hope it gets even better!”
