This year, the rumors about which of the riders can change teams, who plans to renew the current contract, who is not going to do it, are not very active and some observers are even surprised.
However, this does not mean that there are no reasons to talk about such topics, and one of their heroes is the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who, apparently, will continue to play for Mercedes, which, in fact, there was no particular doubt. But since there is no official information, one has to settle for individual statements, for example from Toto Wolff.
“I know from the outside that it may seem strange why we have not signed anything yet. But we are talking about trivial matters that just need to be clarified in the contract,” said the head of the Mercedes team during the days of the Belgian weekend, from which we can conclude that the parties have already reached agreements in principle, and the lawyers only need to verify and polish the wording.
In addition, Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera suggests that the contract extension could be announced in Zandvoort in less than two weeks. No less interesting is the question of the timing of its validity, but Toto Wolff reportedly said during the Hungarian leg that the new contract will run until the end of 2025.
The German publication Auto Bild writes about this and also mentions ongoing discussions with Mercedes, so that Lewis remains the ambassador of the Stuttgart brand even after the end of an active career in motorsport.
All this suggests that talking about Ferrari’s interest in Hamilton is a thing of the past and that there are likely to be no candidates for a place in the Italian team any time soon, leaving Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz with cause for concern. In addition, the French portal Sportune.20minutes suggested at the beginning of August, without citing sources, that the Monegasque had already signed a new two-year contract with Ferrari, which includes the possibility of an extension until 2029.
However, Charles himself denies this, but he can also be understood: it is difficult to recall a precedent when one of the riders made statements about signing a contract before this fact was officially confirmed.
