We have already mentioned that the factory Lamborghini Squadra Corse team has carried out the first tests of the latest LMDh-class SC63 sports prototype at Imola. But now there is official information on the results of two-day testing of the hypercar, which will kick off both the World Endurance Championship and the US IMSA series in 2024.
The tests were preceded by a first run-in of the car at the Vallelunga circuit, after which work continued at the circuit named after Enzo and Dino Ferrari.
According to today’s press release, the main task of the Lamborghini engineers, as well as their colleagues from the Italian Iron Lynx team, which enjoys factory support from the Emilia-Romagna company, was “the work of calibrating the car”, especially the power plant. It is based on a 3.8-litre twin-turbine V8 engine, and this is the first such independent development from the Lamborghini racing division.
Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli and Daniil Kvyat, the pilots of the factory team, have driven approximately 1500 km over the course of two days, replacing each other, to refine the SC63, and in the remaining two weeks of August they will continue to test the car on other circuits – at Le Castellet and at Spa.
Together with the engineers, they were also involved in the analysis and selection of optimal transmission settings: all LMDh-class sports prototypes use Xtrac gearboxes as standard, but each team can have its own requirements for gear ratios and differential settings.
Lamborghini gave no specific details, including not yet sharing drivers’ comments, but the press release mentions work on the calibration of car systems such as the pit lane speed limiter, traction control, cooling system and brakes. Much attention was also paid to aerodynamic testing.
