Safnauer: Renault has no patience

Otmar Szafnauer, who was unexpectedly dismissed from his position as head of the Alpine team, accused Renault group management of their lack of patience and misunderstanding of the laws inherent in Formula 1.

“I think the top management of Renault, the head of the group, Luca de Meo, wants to succeed right away, but unfortunately this does not happen in Formula 1,” Safnauer said in an interview with US radio station SiriusXM. – You see, I told him that it takes time, that certain processes have to be observed. I think with my 26 years of experience in Formula 1 I know how to go about rebuilding the team.

But they wanted everything to happen as quickly as possible, and I couldn’t agree to such an unrealistic schedule. Doing this leads to general frustration after a while, so I proposed a very realistic plan. But I think they wanted to shorten those deadlines and invite someone else…

I was able to convince a few people who are good in areas where Alpine needs to improve to join the team, but unfortunately only a few will be able to do so in the fall, but most in the middle of next year, and some not until 2025. I was trying to explain this, to explain that the process is already underway, and that sometimes you have to take half a step back in order to be able to take two steps forward.

But Renault management simply does not have this understanding, which is explained by impatience or some kind of emotion. But it is clear that they do not have the necessary understanding of what it takes to succeed in Formula 1. If they want to go faster, they will have to overcome difficulties, but it will be without me.
