The Haas F1 team operates at three bases in parallel. The design headquarters are in Italy, the team is in Banbury, near Silverstone, and the headquarters are in North Carolina in the US.
This model has both its advantages and a number of significant disadvantages. Sports director Günter Steiner would like to have everything under one roof, but admits that this is not possible at the moment.
Günther Steiner: “There are difficulties, I will not deny it, but at the moment our business model does not allow us to keep everything in one place due to the close cooperation with Ferrari and Dallara and the location of the team’s base in the UK. But we do our best to deal with such circumstances as best we can.
I would love to have a team under one roof, but I just don’t have the opportunity. If you want to change something, you first have to figure out how to do it. The only thing that is theoretically possible is to send a racing team to Italy, but this is also not feasible – out of a hundred employees, at least half would have to be replaced, and maybe more – they would not agree to move to Italy.
