In the past 12 Grands Prix, Sergio Perez was 0.958 seconds behind Max Verstappen in qualifying, the biggest difference between teammates this season. Former Formula 1 driver Johnny Herbert thinks it’s time for Sergio to look for a replacement.
Johnny Herbert: “The situation is alarming. It’s bad when you give in so much to your partner. If I were Perez I would be worried and extremely uncomfortable.
On the contrary, Verstappen is very comfortable, he feels no pressure, no one challenges him, but Red Bull knows very well that if rivals add, they need a strong co-pilot.
Maybe Sergio thinks he’s doing well in qualifying, but the stats bring him back down to earth. Just look at the numbers. Already half way through the season and he still can’t find the right speed. In some races the gap is smaller, but his performance doesn’t have the stability that Max has. Now only Sergio himself can change everything.”
