Today, the California city of Monterey hosts Automotive Week – one of the largest festivals of historic vehicles in the United States, including racing.
Traditionally, the schedule of the week includes races in various classes of cars produced in previous eras, and Zach Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing and co-owner of the United Autosports team, is once again taking part.
On the track in Laguna Seca, he drives three cars from his collection alternately: this is the McLaren M8D / 3 Can-Am sports prototype of the 1970 model Lola, in which Mario Andretti competed in 1974 and also won races in IndyCar as the Williams championship FW07B by Alan Jones, built by Patrick Head, Neil Oatley and Frank Derney in 1980.
“The Monterey Festival is an incredibly high-profile event,” said Brown. – I always have a good time during the days of the Autoweek, which is why we came back here again this year. This is my ninth year racing historic Monterey Motorsports Reunion cars. In 2023 we achieved good results, including winning the Jaguar JXR10 sports prototype, so I look forward to another exciting race together with the United Autosports team.”
Behind the first race and on the McLaren sports prototype, Brown finished 4th and behind the wheel of Williams only 14th.
