Hill: Mercedes still has a lot of time to play

At the Canadian Grand Prix, the Mercedes car was third fastest and Lewis Hamilton took the podium for the second time this season. This result encouraged the team’s fans, but 1996 world champion Damon Hill believes Mercedes still has a lot of work to do before the team can regularly compete for first positions.

Damon Hill: “If you look closely at their race pace, it becomes clear that they are still way behind. Sometimes they have a competitive pace in races, but we don’t know how fast Max Verstappen can go, who tends to save tires. At Red Bull they don’t unnecessarily squeeze the most out of their car, so I would say Mercedes still has a lot of time to play to become a serious contender.

However, it is clear that Lewis Hamilton is very happy with the latest result. He does not lose his presence of mind in a very difficult season, although he did lose his eighth title last year.
