The Aston Martin team was in the spotlight in the first half of the season, as their new car proved to be very fast and Fernando Alonso regularly showed good results: in the first eight races he finished in the top three six times.
At the same time, Lance Stroll, his partner, also scored points, although he could not keep up with the two-time world champion. His best finish to date is a 4th place in Australia and his best qualifying finish was a 5th start in Saudi Arabia and Spain. If Alonso still occupies the 3rd line in the individual standings, although Lewis Hamilton almost overtook him, then the Canadian is only 9th.
At the same time, they have built a very good working relationship with Alonso and he does not skimp on the praise of the two-time world champion.
“Fernando has been performing at a high level all season and doing great on every stage,” Stroll said in an interview with British Motorsport Magazine. – In some races I could literally squeeze everything out of the car, but it was a little faster. Several times I have been ahead of him in qualifying and races, which I am very proud of.
Of course, as a top-level professional, he practically makes no mistakes, and this is his strong quality that should be recognized.
I hope our team can add again; I think we are capable of it. I was hampered by the fact that I missed pre-season testing in February, where I was able to do about 250 laps, and my physical form this season leaves a lot to be desired. However, I believe that even more than the injury prevented the bad luck.
