Anyone familiar with the traditions and customs of Formula 1 knows that uniforms and other symbolic attributes characteristic of belonging to a particular team are not a convention at all, but a very important and serious matter.
It is simply impossible to see riders or employees of one team trying on baseball caps in another color, for example, except in some exceptional cases.
But firstly, this is least true of the authorities, and secondly, the curious episode that happened today in Monterey, California, can be considered such a special case.
The traditional annual festival “Automobile Week” was coming to an end and some participants decided to go to a restaurant on this occasion to properly celebrate this event.
The people at the said company were also special, as Zack Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, said on social networks: “Monterey car week ended with a great meal together with truly legendary personalities! They were Ford CEO Jim Farley, nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Christensen and a man in a McLaren cap who knows a thing or two about racing car design!”
Even a cursory glance at the photos Brown shared is enough to see: sitting at the table wearing a bright orange cap is none other than the head of the technical department of Red Bull Racing Adrian Newey!
But Zack Brown also wears a Red Bull baseball cap that is totally uncharacteristic of him, so let’s continue with this funny quote: “Adrian, it looks good on you! And it was very clever of him to countermove and get me a cap! McLaren F1 and Arrow McLaren teams are looking forward to new races this weekend!”
It remains to quote the comment of one of the fans, who responded very correctly to this episode: “This is how rumors are born!”
