Esteban Ocon: We have not achieved our goals

After the summer break, Esteban Ocon assessed the team’s performance in the first half of the season and what to expect from Alpine in the upcoming races.

Q: How did you spend your summer vacation?
Esteban Ocon: The last few weeks I spent with friends and family in France. It’s always great when you get a chance to relax and recharge after a very exciting first part of the season. I managed to visit one of my favorite places where we all rested and prepared for a busy second half of the season.

I was in constant contact with the team and I know we are all looking forward to returning to the track in Zandvoort this weekend. During the break I also found time to train and earlier this week I was preparing for the upcoming stages on the simulator in Enstone. I’m ready and happy to be back.

Q: How do you rate the first half of the season?
Esteban Ocon: I’ll be honest: we didn’t achieve the results and goals we set ourselves at the beginning of the year. Of course there were great performances, such as the podium in Monaco and Pierre Gasly’s third place in the sprint at Spa, but we also had difficult moments.

The season is far from over and the team knows they have to give their best every weekend and take every opportunity. We are motivated to perform even stronger and strive for consistently high results.

It is necessary to show patience and keep refining the car to close the gap to the rivals at the front. We have to keep working and showing results on the track.

Question: Do you like the circuit in Zandvoort?
Esteban Ocon: It is very interesting to fly in Zandvoort. This track is often compared to a roller coaster because it runs through the dunes over the beach. A greater contrast than the contrast between Zandvoort and Spa is hard to imagine. Belgium has a long circuit with fast corners, while the Netherlands has a short, narrow and winding circuit. This is a great place to drive a Formula 1 car as maximum performance is required behind the wheel.

The atmosphere is also special and at times resembles the atmosphere in a stadium during a football match! Can’t wait to get behind the wheel again. Our goal is to show a good result this weekend.
