When the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was canceled due to heavy rain, Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali said he would try to catch up to Imola for the lost stage.
In an interview with RacingNews365, Giancarlo Minardi, the former head of his own team, told the president of the circuit in Imola how he sees this compensation.
Giancarlo Minardi: “We were lucky – the track was practically not damaged, which cannot be said about the region as a whole. In Faenza, for example, the damage was very severe, which made people’s lives very difficult.
We have been able to help many people in the region, and this help continues even now, many enterprises have suffered so badly that they are still not opened. Over time, the real damage to people and the region becomes apparent, and it is very great.
So far we have a contract until 2025, but we would very much like to organize the Grand Prix in 2026 as well. With this we can give something back to the region, which earns a lot of money from Formula 1 races. Grands Prix give a major boost to the development of the region, which can rightly be called the Italian car valley.
Next year will be incredibly busy for us, we will also be hosting the WEC stage. We are already very actively preparing for the next season.”
