IndyCar: Markus Erickson moves to Andretti Autosport

From 2024, Markus Erikson, a former Formula 1 driver who is now quite successfully continuing his career in the American IndyCar series, will drive for Andretti Autosport. Reportedly, the Swede, who won the famous Indy 500 race in 2022, has signed a multi-year contract with Michael Andretti’s team.

Next season, 32-year-old Erickson will be the new running mate of the young but promising Americans Colton Herta and Kyle Kirkwood. But whether Roman Grosjean, another Formula 1 veteran whose contract with Andretti expires this year, will remain in the team is still unknown.

“Like everyone else, we followed Marcus closely and were impressed with how quickly he proved to be one of the best IndyCar drivers,” said Michael Andretti. “It’s no secret that we want to win races and championships, and to achieve that we need drivers like Markus, who has both natural talent and an aggressive way of fighting on track.”

“I am very happy to be part of Andretti Autosport next season and very proud of it,” continued Markus. “Andretti is one of the legendary names in motorsport and my dream will come true if I join this team.

I want to thank Michael for the trust and I can’t wait to get to know everyone on this team. A new chapter of my career begins, interesting times ahead!”

Chip Ganassi Racing, who Erickson has been with since 2020, spoke highly of their rider, who has only three races left: “We wish Marcus all the best in his future endeavours. During his time with CCR, he racked up four wins, including the Indy 500. We look forward to finishing the season with confidence and continuing our winning tradition. We will announce further changes to our roster in due course.”

Three races before the end of the season, Erickson is 6th in the IndyCar personal standings, but with good luck he could finish the championship in a higher position.
