At the FIA press conference in Zandvoort, George Russell stressed that the main task for Mercedes for the remaining ten races of the season is to remain 2nd in the Constructors’ Championship. At the same time, he dreams of winning at least one victory together with the team – in 2022 he succeeded.
George Russell: “Together with the whole team, we just want to keep moving forward. Mercedes is in a good position in the Constructors’ Championship, ahead of Aston Martin in the battle for second place. This team, as well as McLaren, are pretty strong contenders, but we intend to look for further improvements and of course we dream of winning at least one race this year.
But Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing have a very big advantage, so now our target is to stay in 2nd place in the team standings.
If we talk about next weekend, I finished second in Zandvoort last year and I see no reason to stop us repeating this. We usually perform well on tracks that require a lot of downforce, so in 2022 we were fast both here and in Brazil.
However, it is still difficult to say how it will turn out this weekend, because the weather can be very changeable, but I still think we are quite capable of showing good results.
