At Zandvoort on Thursday, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc said it would be difficult for rivals to catch up to Red Bull before the next major rule change in 2026.
Charles Leclerc: “We are doing everything we can to close the gap, but it is really big. Before the regulatory changes, it will be very difficult to catch up.
In contrast to previous years, the results are now quite tight in qualifying, and in the race they are much faster.
When a team is dominating it’s normally about qualifying and the racing but right now for some reason Red Bull has a much bigger lead in the race than in qualifying so we’re actually working to push the pace of the race to increase.
There’s a lot of work to be done. We are preparing new items for the next Grand Prix and we hope they will help us take a step forward. But even with this machine surprises are possible, they are so sensitive. Sometimes even a small change can make a big difference in their behavior. I hope it will be the same in our case.
Now the team is recruiting new engineers, this will help us look at the situation from different angles, help us grow and develop. But given the gap between Ferrari and Red Bull, especially on race days, it will take time.”
