Daniel Ricciardo returned from hospital with a plaster cast on his left hand and spoke about the circumstances of Friday’s accident…
Daniel Riccardo: “I was very happy to be able to wrestle again after the summer break. The day went well. For the second practice we made some adjustments and the few laps I did on the Hard tires before the accident turned out to be good – we gradually added speed.
I remember going into turn three and then seeing Piastri so I could hit him or the wall. When I crashed into the wall, I didn’t have time to take my hands off the wheel and I was hit in the arm.
I’m sorry this happened, but I’ll try to fix it as soon as possible. Obviously I would like to come back soon, but it’s important to make sure we do everything right so that I come back strong and competitive.
I wish the team all the best and again I apologize for the change in plans. Liam has been given the opportunity to make his F1 debut and I wish him and the team a great weekend.”
