In Zandvoort, both Alfa Romeo drivers fell out again in the first part of qualifying…
Guanyu Zhou (16th): “In qualifying the conditions were more difficult than in the morning, but I was sure I could go through to the second session. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a good ride on the last fast lap – there was water in the last corner, the car blew off – and I fell out of contention.
In the morning when the rain was heavier, the car was more competitive, maybe that’s when we got into the settings. I hope the race will also be rainy which will help us come back.
Valttery Bottas (19th): “During practice we were constantly in the top ten, so today’s result upset me a lot. I don’t understand what’s going on: the feeling from the car was about the same as in the third practice, I did clean laps, but ended up ten places further than where I was before.
Track conditions were tricky, but not much different from previous ones, so I have no explanation. It seems that the biggest problem is tire heating, but we need to find answers to these questions before tomorrow.
The race will not be easy. I will start 19th, but I will give everything. I hope qualifying was an exception and that we will show our speed in the race and gain back a few places.”
